Welcome to Munchkin Meals ("we," "us," or "our"). Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use the Munchkin Meals mobile application (the "App") and related services (the "Service").

By using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information to provide and improve the Service:

a. Information You Provide to Us

• Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name and email address.

• Optional Child-Related Labels: You may optionally provide names or nicknames for your child(ren). This information is provided by a parent or caregiver solely for meal planning and organizational purposes. Children do not create accounts or interact with the App directly.

• Profile and Content: Information you add to your profile or within the App, such as photos, meal plans, grocery lists, meal logs, or food notes.

• Voice Input: If you use a voice onboarding feature, your spoken input is processed locally on your device using your device's speech recognition service. We do not store audio recordings.

• AI Chatbot (MunchBot): If you use the MunchBot feature (available on paid plans), the text messages you send are transmitted to our servers and processed by a third-party AI provider to generate responses. Do not include sensitive personal information in MunchBot messages. See Section 3 for details.

• Support Requests: When you contact us, we may collect your name, email address, and the details of your inquiry.

b. Automatically Collected Information

• Usage Data: Information about how you use the App, including features accessed, actions taken, pages viewed, and session duration.

• Device Information: Information such as device type, operating system, app version, language preferences, IP address, and device identifiers.

• Crash Reports: If the App crashes or encounters errors, diagnostic information (including device state, stack traces, and app version) may be automatically collected and sent to our crash reporting service to help us identify and fix issues.

• Analytics and Similar Technologies: We use analytics tools and similar technologies (such as SDKs, local storage, and device identifiers) to understand how the App is used and to improve performance and reliability. These technologies are not used to track users across third-party apps or websites for advertising purposes.

• Push Notification Tokens: If you grant permission for push notifications, we collect a device notification token to deliver meal reminders and App updates.

c. Information from Third Parties

• Sign-In Providers: If you sign in using a third-party service (such as Apple or Google), we may receive basic profile information (such as your name and email address) in accordance with that service's privacy settings.

• In-App Purchases: Purchase and subscription status is processed by Apple (App Store) and RevenueCat, our subscription management provider. We receive confirmation of your subscription tier but do not store full payment card details. See Section 3 for details.

d. Guest Mode

If you use the App without creating an account (Guest Mode), data such as meal plans and food lists is stored locally on your device only and is not transmitted to our servers. Limited usage analytics may still be collected as described in Section 1(b).

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide, operate, personalize, and improve the Munchkin Meals experience

• Enable shared features such as group-based meal planning (for paid plans)

• Process your MunchBot AI chatbot queries and return responses

• Send push notifications for meal reminders and App updates (only if you have granted permission)

• Communicate with you, including service updates, account notifications, and customer support

• Send optional promotional communications (you may opt out at any time)

• Monitor usage, diagnose crashes, prevent fraud, and ensure the security and integrity of the App

• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms and Conditions

 

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.

Lawful Bases for Processing (EEA/UK Users): Where applicable, we rely on the following legal bases: (a) performance of a contract — to provide the Service you signed up for; (b) legitimate interests — to improve the App, ensure security, and prevent fraud; (c) consent — for optional features such as promotional emails and push notifications; and (d) legal obligation — where required by law.

3. How We Share Information

We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

 

• Service Providers: With trusted third-party vendors that help us operate the App, including:

  • Supabase: Cloud database and authentication hosting

  • RevenueCat: Subscription and purchase management (collects purchase history, device identifiers, and app activity per their own privacy policy)

  • Firebase / Google Crashlytics: Crash reporting and diagnostics

  • AI Provider (MunchBot): Text messages submitted to MunchBot are processed by a third-party large-language-model API to generate responses; messages may be retained by the provider for abuse prevention and model improvement per their policies

  • Analytics providers: Aggregated usage analytics

  • Apple: Payment processing for App Store purchases
    All service providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only to provide services on our behalf.

• Legal Requirements: If required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Munchkin Meals, our users, or others.

• Business Transfers: If Munchkin Meals is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or in-App notice before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

• With Your Consent: When you explicitly authorize sharing, such as choosing to share content with others within the App.

4. Devise Permissions

The App may request the following device permissions. Granting these permissions is optional, but certain features will not be available without them:

• Camera: Capture lunchbox photos and scan food barcodes

• Photo Library: Select and upload food or meal photos

• Microphone / Speech Recognition: Voice onboarding feature

• Push Notifications: Meal reminders and App updates

​

We do not use camera, microphone, or photo library access for any purpose other than the features described above.
 

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide the Service. Specific retention periods:
 

• Account data: Retained until account deletion is requested.

• Crash and diagnostic logs: Retained for up to 90 days.

• Analytics data: Retained in aggregated or anonymized form for up to 24 months.

• MunchBot message logs: Retained per our AI provider's policy; we do not store MunchBot conversation history on our own servers beyond what is required to return a response.

 

You may request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us at support@munchkinmeals.com. After account deletion, certain information may be retained in anonymized or aggregated form for analytics, security, or legal compliance purposes.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

 

In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities in accordance with applicable law.

 

However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access your personal data

• Correct  inaccurate or incomplete information

• Delete your personal data (right to erasure)

• Port your data to another service (data portability)

• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

• Object to or restrict certain data processing activities

• Opt out of push notifications at any time via your device settings

 

California Residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete your personal information, the right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information), and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

 

EEA / UK Residents: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

 

You may exercise your rights by contacting us at support@munchkinmeals.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (generally 30 days).​

8. Children’s Privacy

Munchkin Meals is intended for use by parents and caregivers and is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children. Children do not create accounts or directly interact with the App.

 

Any child-related information in the App (such as nicknames used for meal planning) is provided by a parent or legal guardian for organizational purposes only. If we become aware that personal information has been collected from a child without appropriate parental consent, we will delete it promptly.

9. International Data Transfers

Munchkin Meals is operated in the United States. If you access the App from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws.

 

We use appropriate contractual and technical safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses where required) to protect personal data transferred internationally in accordance with applicable laws.

10. Third‑Party Links and Services

The App may contain links to third-party websites, recipe sources, or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties. Please review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.​

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any material changes will be posted in the App with an updated "Last Updated" date, and where required by law, we will notify you directly (e.g., by email or in-App notice). Your continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.​
